Exploring the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Artistic Feedback: A Brief Survey for Artists

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into creative disciplines is rapidly evolving, prompting many questions about its potential to support artists in their work. As part of a recent capstone project, a college student and practicing artist is conducting a study to assess how AI-based tools can assist artists through feedback mechanisms.

This initiative aims to gather insights from artists on whether AI-generated feedback is beneficial, and how different AI systems compare in their usefulness. Participants are invited to contribute in a straightforward manner: by uploading one to three pieces of their artwork into selected AI tools, reviewing the feedback provided, and completing a short survey estimated to take approximately five minutes.

Participants who prefer not to use AI tools are still encouraged to share their perspectives by completing the survey. This inclusive approach seeks to understand the broader artists’ sentiments toward using AI for artistic critique, including ethical and environmental considerations—issues that are central to ongoing debates within the creative community.

The project emphasizes that AI tools are not intended to replace human feedback but rather to explore whether they can serve as valuable supplementary resources. The goal is to critically evaluate these systems and consider how they might be refined to better serve artists without compromising ethical standards or human interaction.

Artists interested in participating can access the survey through the following link: https://forms.gle/NrtCsZhsb8ob2dVL7. Participants should feel comfortable sharing artwork, keeping in mind that some AI platforms may store or reuse submitted images.

This research offers an opportunity to contribute to an emerging discourse on the intersection of AI and art. Results from the study will be shared with participants and the broader community, fostering a deeper understanding of AI’s potential role in artistic development.

Your participation is valued, and your insights can help shape the future of AI-supported artistic critique. Thank you for your consideration.
