Exploring Europe: A 23-Day Journey Through Central and Northern Europe Visiting Friends
Embarking on a multi-country European adventure can be an exciting yet daunting experience, especially when navigating transportation logistics between destinations. Recently, I finalized my 23-day itinerary across several vibrant cities, primarily to reconnect with friends I’ve met during seasonal work abroad. As I prepare for this journey, I wanted to share my plans and seek advice on transportation and activities, particularly between Warsaw, Vilnius, and Tallinn.
Trip Overview
My departure begins in early October with a flight from the United States to Berlin. I plan to arrive early in the morning and spend my first day near Berlin Central Station, exploring the city and acclimating to the local environment. The following day, I will take a train to Szczecin, Poland, where I’ll spend a couple of days reconnecting with a friend residing there.
From Szczecin, my travels will lead me to Warsaw, Poland’s capital, to visit another friend. After Warsaw, I will head northeast to Vilnius, Lithuania, for a week-long stay in the picturesque Old Town, catching up with more friends. My European tour continues with a three-day visit to Tallinn, Estonia, followed by a ferry ride to Helsinki, Finland, where I’ll spend a night before returning to the U.S.
Planning and Accommodations
While I don’t consider myself a meticulous planner, I’ve secured accommodations in key cities—Airbnbs in Berlin, Vilnius, and Estonia, as well as a hotel in Helsinki. Beyond lodging, my preparations mainly involve coordinating with friends regarding my arrival dates. My primary concern is managing transportation between cities, especially between Warsaw and Vilnius, and from Vilnius to Tallinn.
Transportation Challenges
Currently, my research indicates that buses run between these cities, but I am unsure whether I need to purchase tickets in advance or if I can buy them on arrival. This uncertainty creates some anxiety, as I want to ensure smooth transfers and avoid last-minute logistical issues.
Seeking Advice and Recommendations
If you have experience traveling between Warsaw and Vilnius or Vilnius and Tallinn, I would appreciate your insights on the best modes of transportation, ticketing procedures, and any tips for booking in advance. Additionally, as a solo traveler, I’m interested in suggested activities or hidden gems in Vilnius and Tallinn to enrich my stay.
Final thoughts
Though I’m generally laid-back about trip planning, the complexities of international travel require some guidance. Sharing
