Exploring Europe After Italy: Next Destinations for a Culinary and Cultural Adventure

Last year, my wife and I immersed ourselves in the rich history, vibrant culture, and exquisite cuisine of Italy over a memorable 14-day journey. Our itinerary included iconic cities such as Rome, Florence, Venice, and a brief sojourn in Bologna. While we cherish the experiences we’ve gathered and are eager to revisit Bologna to explore it more deeply, we’re also excited to discover new European destinations before returning to Italy.

Looking ahead to our next adventure in March 2026, our top contender is the captivating cities of Lisbon and Porto in Portugal. Known for their charming neighborhoods, delectable food scenes, and walkable urban environments, these cities align perfectly with our interests.

Our travel style involves indulging in local culinary delights, enjoying refreshing drinks, and exploring neighborhoods on foot—typically walking over 10,000 steps daily to immerse ourselves fully in the local atmosphere. Although we appreciate visiting museums and exploring historical sites, our primary focus is savoring local eateries, experiencing vibrant street life, and discovering quaint shops and bars along the way.

Italy’s appeal lay in its exceptional food and drink culture, combined with walkable cities that made spontaneous exploration effortless. We are eager to find destinations that offer similar experiences: lively streets filled with authentic culinary spots, friendly neighborhoods, and opportunities for casual strolling.

Are there other European cities or regions you would recommend that match these interests? We’re open to suggestions that promise a mix of culinary exploration, walkable environments, and vibrant local culture.

Looking forward to hearing your tips and insights for our upcoming European adventure!
