Embarking on a 12-Day European Adventure: Seeking Insights and Tips for Solo Travel

Planning a European journey can be both exhilarating and overwhelming, especially when venturing into multiple countries in a limited timeframe. As a passionate traveler gearing up for a 12-day solo trip across three (plus one) diverse nations, I’m excited to share my itinerary and would love to gather any feedback, suggestions, or advice from fellow travelers—particularly those experienced in solo female travel.

Overview of My Itinerary

Mid-November marks the dates for this adventure, which includes visits to Greece, Italy, and Portugal. Each destination offers unique cultural, historical, and scenic experiences, and I have allocated four days to explore each region. This trip will be my first extended solo journey in Europe, building upon a couple of short trips—one a quick two-day escapade and another through Italy. Notably, I’ll be exploring new areas within these countries, including a different part of Greece from my previous visit.

Destination Breakdown

Greece (Days 1–4)

  • Main Focus: Athens rich in history and culture

  • Possible Excursion: An overnight trip to Santorini

Given that November is off-season, I plan to visit Santorini for a day to experience its stunning vistas without the summer crowds. The goal is to immerse myself in Athens’s historical sites—acropolises, museums, and neighborhoods—while enjoying a quieter atmosphere. An overnight stay in Santorini is under consideration, but I am mindful of weather variability and travel logistics.

Italy (Days 5–8)

  • Main Focus: Rome, with ambitions for day-trips

  • Additional Plans: A guided tour to explore Amalfi Coast and Pompeii

Having visited Venice and Tuscany previously, Rome remains at the top of my list. During my time, I aim to explore iconic landmarks like the Colosseum, Vatican City, and historic piazzas. A day-trip to the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii with a reputable tour operator like GetYourGuide is in my plans. I’m interested in experiencing local cuisine and soaking up the city’s vibrant street life.

Portugal (Days 9–12)

  • Focus: Lisbon, with potential excursions

  • Additional Exploration: Day-trips to Sintra and Porto

Portugal’s charm has garnered many positive reviews, and I’m eager to walk its colorful streets, admire the architecture, and indulge in local flavors. Sintra is renowned for its fairy-tale palaces and landscapes
