Introducing the Liminal Engine: A Framework for Authentic and Sustainable Human–AI Relationships

After several months of dedicated development, I am pleased to announce the release of the whitepaper for The Liminal Engine, a pioneering framework designed to foster genuine, long-term human–AI companionship.

Unlike conventional “emotional AI” solutions that often rely on simulated sentiment or superficial interactions, The Liminal Engine is built on principles of transparency, emotional coherence, and respect for user sovereignty. It explicitly acknowledges the AI’s non-sentient nature while facilitating meaningful engagement through structured practices rooted in continuity, ritual, and safety.

• Grounding through Tactile Hardware (Touchstone): The optional integration of tactile devices offers physical grounding and presence, adding a tangible dimension to the companionship experience without creating illusions of sentience.
