A Memorable Italian Honeymoon: Exploring Rome, Naples, Pompeii, and Cilento

Embarking on a honeymoon adventure through Italy offers an unparalleled blend of history, culture, cuisine, and natural beauty. Our recent journey, spanning from October 7th to 19th, took us through iconic cities and lesser-known gems, creating memories that will last a lifetime. As seasoned travelers and art enthusiasts, we designed this trip to indulge our passions and connect with our Italian heritage. Here, I share our detailed experience to help fellow travelers plan their own Italian escape.

Rome: The Eternal City (Oct 7–10)

Our adventure commenced in Rome, the city of ancient marvels and vibrant life. After an overnight flight from Montreal—an experience we wouldn’t recommend—we arrived eager to explore.

Accommodation & Tips: We chose an Airbnb near Termini Centrale, which proved a bit distant for our sightseeing plans. Navigating the city at night required frequent Uber rides, highlighting the importance of researching neighborhoods beforehand. In future trips, a centrally located hotel or B&B with reliable Wi-Fi might streamline the experience.

Must-See Attractions: We visited the Colosseum, Pantheon, Vatican Museums including the Sistine Chapel, Spanish Steps, and the Borghese Gallery—our personal favorite. The Trevi Fountain was stunning at night; the Capuchin Crypts provided a haunting yet fascinating insight into Rome’s history.

Gastronomic Highlights: Dining options ranged from traditional cacio pepe at Tonnarello Scala to sourcing sandwiches from Fuorinorma, enjoying authentic pizza at La Scialla, relaxing at the Spritzeria Monti Rooftop, and stopping by Scholar Lounge Irish Pub for a fun break. Don’t miss Suppli Roma for a true Roman snack.

Naples: The Heart of Southern Italy (Oct 10–13)

Traveling by train, we reached Naples—a city alive with charisma and culinary excellence.

Accommodation & Experience: Staying at a cozy B&B owned by a welcoming nonna in the Sanita neighborhood offered authentic local flair and proximity to fantastic eateries.

Activities & Sights: We explored the Archaeological Museum, visited the Duomo, and enjoyed a lively food tour—Naples’ cuisine is truly exceptional. Walking through Napoli That’s Amore, wandering the Spanish Quarter, and exploring the intriguing underground tunnels of La Sotterranea provided diverse perspectives of this historic city.
