Our Ultimate Italian Honeymoon Experience: An Adventurous Journey from Lake Como to the Amalfi Coast
Planning a honeymoon is a deeply personal experience, and for us, it was an exhilarating adventure across Italy’s most stunning regions. Despite encountering some skepticism from friends and family about our ambitious itinerary, my husband and I are proud of how we designed our trip. In this article, I’ll share our detailed itinerary and insights, highlighting how embracing a packed schedule allowed us to maximize our time and experiences in Italy.
The Pre-Departure Journey
September 27th: We began our trip by flying from Denver to Philadelphia, a necessary step before embarking on the international leg of our journey. The following day, we took a direct flight from Philadelphia to Milan, Italy. Upon arrival, we picked up a rental car and headed straight from Milan to the picturesque Lake Como, setting the tone for our adventure.
Exploring Northern Italy: Lakes and Mountain Peaks
September 28th – 29th: Our first days in Italy were spent soaking in the beauty of Lake Como. We spent September 29th ferry-hopping across the lake, relishing the charming towns, stunning villas, and breathtaking vistas that define this legendary region.
September 30th – October 3rd: From Como, we drove through the Italian Alps to reach the Dolomites. We dedicated September 30th to a scenic drive through this mountain range, followed by two days of exhilarating hikes—first around Sasso Lungo on October 1st, and then at Seceda on October 2nd, taking in the dramatic jagged peaks and alpine landscapes.
October 3rd: Our journey continued southward as we drove from Bolzano to Monte Marcello, a quaint village nestled along Italy’s Ligurian coast.
Relaxation and Coastal Beauty
October 4th – 5th: We enjoyed a relaxing day at a beachfront resort in Golfo di Poeti, exploring nearby beaches and indulging in a spa day. The following day, we relaxed at the spa hotel in Monte Marcello, taking time to unwind after days of travel and hiking.
Transition to Culture and City Life
October 6th – 7th: We departed the coast by train from La Spezia to Rome, Italy’s capital. On October 7th, we booked an “eight-hour whirlwind tour” of Rome, aiming to absorb as much history, art, and culture
