Exploring Italy: A Tailored End-of-Year Cultural and Culinary Journey
As travel enthusiasts, we’re excited to share our upcoming Italian adventure scheduled for late November through December. With a focus on immersing ourselves in the rich history, exquisite landscapes, and vibrant culinary scene, we’ve planned a trip that balances pre-arranged reservations with ample free time for spontaneous exploration. This marks our third visit to Italy, and our inaugural journey to Rome and the Val d’Orcia region. While Venice is familiar territory for me, it’s a first for my husband, who has yet to experience the city’s timeless allure. We also have fond memories from our honeymoon in Chianti, fueling our enthusiasm for this trip.
Our itinerary is thoughtfully designed to include memorable experiences across several iconic destinations:
Venice (November 24-27)
– Accommodation: Three nights at Hotel Nolinski, a boutique property renowned for its elegant ambiance.
– Key Activities:
– Dining reservations at Al Covo and Da Romano in Burano, both celebrated for their authentic Venetian cuisine and waterfront views.
– Visiting the Fortuny Museum to explore its unique collection of textiles and design artifacts.
– Participating in a local wine tour led by a sommelier, providing a taste of regional varieties and insider insights.
Florence and Montepulciano (November 27-30)
– Following Venice, we will take a scenic train ride to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance.
– Transportation: Rent a car in Florence for the scenic drive into the Tuscan countryside.
– Accommodation: An inviting Airbnb in Montepulciano for three nights.
– Activities:
– Indulging in vineyard lunches within the Val d’Orcia, a region famed for its rolling hills and world-class wines.
– Planning to follow Rick Steves’ suggested drive loop through Val d’Orcia, allowing us to soak in picturesque vistas and hidden gems.
Rome (November 30-December 4)
– Journeying from Tuscany to Rome, with a scenic detour to Orvieto en route.
– Stop in Orvieto for lunch and exploration of its historic city center before heading to Rome.
– Accommodation: A centrally located Airbnb near the Spanish Steps.
– Key Reservations:
