Planning a Memorable Summer Adventure with Teens: A 2027 European Itinerary

As a Canadian family with a passion for exploring Europe, we recently enjoyed an unforgettable summer trip to France and Italy. Now, with 2027 on the horizon and ample time to save, I am beginning to craft a detailed travel plan for our next adventure. Our family consists of two adults, a 17-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, and a 14-year-old son. We plan to travel approximately 14 to 16 days, relying primarily on public transportation to navigate our destinations.

Below, I outline my tentative itinerary and would appreciate any insights or suggestions from seasoned travelers, especially regarding accessibility, transportation options, and activity choices.

Day 1-3: Munich, Germany
Our journey begins in Munich, where we plan to spend three days exploring local highlights. Day 4-5: Ljubljana, Slovenia
Next, we will travel by train from Munich to Ljubljana, spending two relaxing days in the Slovenian capital. Our plans include leisurely coffees, sampling local wines, and capturing photographs of the charming cityscape.

Day 6-12: Split, Croatia (with possible base in Omiš)
From Ljubljana, we intend to take either a bus or train to Split, Croatia, where we hope to enjoy a week of beach activities—swimming, snorkeling, and taking short boat cruises to nearby islands such as Hvar. We are also contemplating whether Split should serve as our sole base or if Omiš, a town known for its scenic coves and outdoor adventures, might be a better home base for exploring the Dalmatian coast.

Day 13-14: Zurich, Switzerland
Our final stop would be Zurich, where we plan to spend two days. While I am not overly enamored with the city’s images online, Zurich offers the convenience of direct flights from Europe to Montreal, which is essential for us. Arriving and departing via Zurich aligns with
