Exploring 2026 Travel Plans: Sharing Insights and Inspiration
As the year 2025 draws to a close, many travel enthusiasts, including myself, begin to reflect on the journeys we’ve completed and start planning for the year ahead. With all my trips for 2025 wrapped up, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to share my travel plans for 2026. I also welcome your suggestions and ideas—perhaps you have recommendations based on these destinations or can draw inspiration from them for your own adventures.
Living in the United Kingdom, approximately 45 minutes north of London, provides me with convenient access to Europe, making week-long trips a practical and enjoyable way to explore different regions throughout the year. I prefer to focus on towns and cities, especially those rich in history—particularly Roman history and the timeline from the French Revolution onward. My interests extend to art, architecture, and the natural outdoors, as I also enjoy hiking when the opportunity arises.
Here’s an overview of my planned travels for 2026:
Central Spain (May)
Inspired by excellent advice from fellow travel enthusiasts, I’ve booked affordable British Airways flights to Madrid during mid-May, taking advantage of a late spring public holiday to extend my trip to 8-9 days. This trip will be a “one bag” adventure, with a focus on moving efficiently between destinations. I plan to spend the first few nights in Cáceres, exploring this UNESCO-listed medieval town, followed by visits to Mérida and Trujillo—three towns that are manageable for day trips via public transportation, aligning with my preference to avoid driving overseas. Afterward, I’ll head to Salamanca for two days, then spend a day in Valladolid, and finally enjoy two days in Burgos before returning to Madrid and flying home. This itinerary offers a balance of historical exploration and cultural immersion, anchored by towns with significant Roman and medieval heritage.
Slovenia (August)
Initially planned as an 8-day stay with Ljubljana as my base, I aim to allocate 2-3 days to explore the city’s vibrant culture and history. I’ve also lined up a day trip to Piran, taking advantage of available bus routes, despite the expected long journey. Additionally, I plan to spend 2-3 days exploring the stunning natural landscapes around Bled and Bohinj. Due to some recent adjustments, I’ve humorously shifted this trip’s focus to Portugal, but I still cherish the idea of experiencing Slovenia’s charming towns
