Exploring Romania: An 18-Day Itinerary Focusing on Transylvania and Cultural Highlights
Romania, a country rich in history, architecture, natural beauty, and vibrant culture, offers an unforgettable experience for travelers eager to explore beyond the usual European destinations. As a first-time visitor planning an 18-day journey, including a full week dedicated to touring Transylvania, I’ve curated an itinerary that combines cultural immersion, scenic landscapes, and leisurely exploration. This guide aims to share insights into my planned adventure, with an emphasis on art, architecture, nature, and local experiences, and to invite feedback and suggestions for fellow travelers.
Introduction
At 55 years old and holding a US passport, I am embarking on my inaugural trip to Romania, with my base for meetings located in Timișoara, and plans to explore Bucharest, Sibiu, Brașov, and surrounding attractions. Booking flights, hotels, train rides, and car rentals in advance, I designed this flexible itinerary to balance work commitments with immersive sightseeing.
My interests include art, architecture, natural scenery, walking, hiking, culinary experiences, and specialty beverages like cocktails and whiskey. I prefer train travel for the scenic and comfortable journeying it offers, although some segments will be by car due to infrastructure considerations.
