As travelers enjoying the breathtaking Croatian coast, we are preparing for our journey back to the Netherlands, scheduled for in two days. Our route takes us through Italy to Austria, specifically heading towards Gemona in Italy and then towards Innsbruck in Austria. Along this segment, we face an exciting decision: should we traverse the stunning Dolomites or venture through the majestic Austrian Alps, particularly the Hohe Tauern region?

Travel Details and Preferences

Our journey is by car, allowing flexibility to explore and enjoy the scenic landscapes at a comfortable pace. We’re not experienced hikers and generally prefer sightseeing over strenuous outdoor activities. Our main interest lies in experiencing spectacular vistas and natural beauty. Additionally, I have a particular affinity for water features—streams, waterfalls, and lakes—which influence our sightseeing choices.
