Planning a Memorable Summer 2026 Family Trip to Europe: Tips and Insights

Embarking on a family journey across Europe is an exciting endeavor, especially when exploring several iconic destinations in a limited timeframe. As I prepare for our upcoming adventure in summer 2026, I wanted to share my initial plans and gather some insights from fellow travelers.

Trip Overview

Our goal is to experience some of Europe’s most renowned cities within approximately 15 days. We are originating from Canada, with plans to fly from Montreal to Paris and returning from Amsterdam to Montreal. Our intended itinerary includes:

  • Paris, France
  • Brussels and Bruges, Belgium
  • Rotterdam and Amsterdam, Netherlands

Travel Approach

To maximize our time and minimize rental car needs, we plan to rely primarily on train travel and walking. The European rail network offers a convenient and scenic way to move between cities, affording us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the local ambiance.

Key Considerations

While 15 days is a relatively tight schedule to explore multiple countries thoroughly, it is feasible with careful planning. Our primary focus is on experiencing the cultural highlights and enjoying quality family time, rather than exhaustive sightseeing.

Specific Questions and Tips

  • Is covering Paris, Belgium, and the Netherlands in 15 days realistic?
  • Should we allocate more or less time to certain locations?
  • How manageable is a train-centric itinerary across these countries?
  • Is it worthwhile to include Belgium, especially since we’ll pass through en route to the Netherlands?

Personal Priorities

My wife is particularly eager to see Paris, which remains a must-visit destination. For the Netherlands, we’ll be connecting with extended family, adding a personal dimension to our trip. Including Belgium seems logical given our route, but I am curious whether the time investment is justified or if we should focus more narrowly.

Any advice or experiences from seasoned travelers are highly appreciated as we refine our plans. Our aim is to strike a balance between seeing key sights, enjoying the local culture, and ensuring a memorable family experience.

Thank you in advance for your insights!
