Exploring Central Europe: Seeking Feedback on a November Road Trip Itinerary from Vienna to Basel
Planning a trip through central Europe can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially when trying to balance sightseeing with travel logistics. If you’re considering a scenic journey from Vienna to Basel this November, here’s a detailed itinerary outline I’ve put together, along with some insights and questions for fellow travelers and travel enthusiasts.
Trip Overview
I am based in Montenegro and have an upcoming event outside Basel scheduled for October 31st. To make the most of this opportunity, I’m planning a short road trip starting from Vienna and heading towards Basel, focusing on small towns, cultural landmarks, and medieval villages. My preferred mode of transportation involves flying from Dubrovnik to Vienna and returning via the same route. Once in Vienna, I plan to rent a car to explore the region more flexibly, although I remain open to alternative methods such as trains or buses if they fit better with the timing.
My main interests include:
– Vienna Secessionist architecture and art
– Works by Egon Schiele and Bieler painters
– Medieval villages and scenic countryside
Proposed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival from Dubrovnik to Vienna
Day 2: Exploring Vienna
Day 3: Drive from Vienna to Hallstatt
Day 4: Hallstatt to Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Day 5: Rothenburg to Darmstadt, then to Strasbourg
Day 6: Strasbourg to Aesch (near Basel)
Day 7: Basel city exploration
Day 8: Basel to Lauterbrunnen
Day 9: Lauterbrunnen to Innsbruck or another scenic spot
Day 10: Return to Vienna and Dubrovnik
Travel Considerations and Preferences
Most travel days involve around 2-3 hours of driving, which I find manageable, although I am not a fan of moving every day. I am aware that constant travel can be tiring, but I am willing to accept this for the experience of visiting multiple places.
Specific Goals & Concerns
– To immerse myself in Vienna’s Art Nouveau and Secessionist architecture.
– To view works by Egon Schiele and other Bieler painters.
– To explore medieval villages and enjoy the charm of small towns.
– Day 4 appears to be the longest drive, and I am considering splitting this journey between Hallstatt and Rothenburg if possible.
