An Exciting European Adventure: A Detailed Itinerary for London, Switzerland, Paris, and Edinburgh
Planning an extensive trip across some of Europe’s most iconic cities requires meticulous organization and thoughtful planning. Recently, I shared my travel itinerary with a fellow community, and thanks to their invaluable feedback, I’ve refined my plans to create a more seamless and enjoyable experience. Here, I want to provide a comprehensive overview of my updated journey, which spans London, Switzerland, Paris, and Edinburgh, including insights into travel logistics, activity choices, and tips for fellow travelers.
Trip Overview and Key Considerations
My journey begins and ends in London, with return flights from Sydney into the UK capital. Recognizing the tight schedule and the desire to maximize sightseeing, I’ve decided that squeezing two days into London is ambitious but feasible, especially since I plan to dedicate more time there at the trip’s conclusion.
I’ve already selected accommodations in Interlaken and Edinburgh but am seeking advice regarding the best locations for my stays in London and Paris. My main focus is on engaging in popular tourist activities and ensuring safety during my travels. Additionally, I’m exploring the best Switzerland travel pass options to optimize transportation efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Detailed Itinerary Breakdown
January 7-8: Departure and Arrival in Europe
- Depart Sydney for Beijing on January 7, with an overnight layover.
- On January 8, we’ll have a 7-hour layover in Beijing before catching our onward flight to London.
- Arriving at Heathrow around mid-afternoon, we’ll transfer via train to St. Pancras International to catch the Eurostar to Paris, arriving late at night.
- Once in Paris, we’ll proceed to our hotel for a brief rest.
January 9-11: Exploring Paris
- These days are designated for rest and exploration. We plan to revisit popular attractions, enjoy local cuisine, and soak in the city’s ambiance.
- Notable spots under consideration include the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre Dame, and Montmartre.
January 12-15: Switzerland Adventures
- Travel from Paris to Interlaken, possibly via Zurich, with logistical considerations based on final plans—whether to incorporate Zurich activities like visiting the Lindt Factory or shopping.
- In Interlaken, we will spend a day trip exploring Grindelwald, including hiking, sledging, the Cliff Walk, and of course, enjoying Swiss fondue.
