Exploring Europe: A Family Summer Adventure — Seeking Feedback on a 6-Week Itinerary
Planning a European vacation for a large family can be a daunting yet exciting task. We are a family of six, spanning ages 23 to 60, hailing from Australia. This summer, we aim to immerse ourselves in diverse cultures, savor unique cuisines, relax on stunning beaches, and marvel at historic architecture across three remarkable countries: Spain, Italy, and Croatia. We would appreciate any insights, suggestions, or constructive feedback on our proposed itinerary.
Overview of Our 6-Week European Journey
Our trip is designed to offer a balanced blend of city exploration, cultural immersion, and leisure time, with a focus on experiencing the distinct character of each destination. Here is our current plan:
Spain — 14 Nights
- Madrid (3 nights): The vibrant capital known for its art, history, and lively atmosphere.
- Seville (3 nights): A city rich in Andalusian culture, flamenco, and breathtaking architecture.
- Granada (2 nights): Home to the majestic Alhambra and Moorish history.
- Barcelona (3 nights): A perfect mix of Gothic charm, modernist architecture, and lively street life.
- San Sebastián (3 nights): Renowned for its beautiful beaches, pintxos, and scenic coastal vistas.
Italy — 13 Nights
- Florence (3 nights): The cradle of the Renaissance, with world-famous art and architecture.
- Rome (5 nights): An unparalleled historical marvel, from ancient ruins to vibrant piazzas.
- Amalfi Coast (5 nights): Picturesque coastal towns, stunning vistas, and relaxation.
Croatia — 9 Nights
- Rijeka (3 nights): Our base via an family-owned apartment, ideal for day trips.
- Split (3 nights): A lively port city with historical sites and nearby islands.
- Dubrovnik (3 nights): The UNESCO World Heritage city with majestic walls and stunning sea views.
Rationale and Considerations
Our priority is to experience a diverse tapestry of European culture—each country offering its unique flair, cuisine, and scenery. Given that four of our six family members are first-timers to Europe, we believe the three-country itinerary provides a well-rounded introduction.
Having a family apartment in Rijeka offers flexibility and comfort
