Evaluating Gemini 3.0 and GPT Plus: A Comparative Perspective for AI Enthusiasts

In recent days, I’ve been experimenting with advanced AI tools, toggling between GPT Plus and Gemini AI Pro to assess their capabilities and practical applications. While it is early to draw definitive conclusions, I’ve gathered some valuable insights based on my experience that may interest users contemplating their AI toolkit.

Progress and Improvements: Gemini 3.0 vs. Earlier Versions

First and foremost, Gemini 3.0 represents a significant step forward compared to Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash. The enhancements are noticeable enough that the need for the Fast mode in Gemini 2.5 becomes questionable unless raw speed is prioritized over accuracy. The upcoming Gemini 3.0 Flash, which I anticipate will blend speed and precision more effectively, is poised to become even more valuable for everyday use.

Response Quality and Real-World Application

Both AI platforms have delivered satisfactory responses to a variety of prompts. However, there was a recent scenario where Gemini 3.0 provided a notably superior answer. The issue concerned eBay notifications: I was receiving offers on items I viewed but didn’t add to my watchlist, leading me to wonder if there was a way to refine notifications.

Prompt:
“I viewed a bunch of items on eBay; now I’m getting offers for those items I only looked at, not on my watchlist. Is there a setting to only receive offer notifications for items on my watchlist?”

GPT Plus Response:
The answer indicated that there was no definitive way to control this, suggesting generic options like communication preferences that, in reality, don’t exist.

Gemini AI Response:
Gemini acknowledged the lack of granular notification controls but offered a practical workaround:
“Since you cannot tell eBay to ignore viewed items, the most effective solution is to delete the viewed items from your history,” along with clear steps to do so.

This difference illustrates Gemini’s tendency to provide actionable solutions, enhancing real-world usability.

Integration and Ecosystem Compatibility

I heavily rely on Gmail, Google Nest Hub, and Android devices. Managing prompts flexibly between different AI services has been cumbersome, but I am leaning towards consolidating my AI interactions within Gemini. Unless GPT Plus demonstrates a clear advantage in response quality, I plan to cancel my ChatGPT subscription soon.
