My Experience with ChatGPT Plus: A Long-Term Subscription and the Turning Point

As a dedicated user of ChatGPT Plus since its inception, I appreciated the capabilities and convenience it provided. GPT-4, in particular, stood out as an exceptional tool for a variety of tasks—managing personal finances, creating recipes, designing visuals, writing property advertisements, and even supporting my mental and physical well-being. Even with brief prompts, the model delivered consistently impressive and high-quality responses, making it an invaluable resource for my diverse needs.

However, over time, I began to notice a decline in the model’s performance and value. The enhancements and reliability I initially experienced seemed to diminish, prompting me to reevaluate the subscription’s worth, especially considering the $30/month investment in my region. The situation escalated due to a billing issue, which ultimately led to my decision to discontinue the service.

The Billing Incident: A Breakdown

My subscription was scheduled to renew seamlessly on November 17th. About a week later, on November 25th, I was reviewing my account when I noticed an offer for a “three months at 50% off” promotion. Wanting to take advantage of the deal, I accepted — only to discover that the system charged me immediately for the promotional period. Consequently, I was billed twice within the same billing cycle.

To resolve this, I contacted customer support to request a refund only for the overlapping charge. They issued a refund for the duplicate payment; however, the outcome was unexpectedly disappointing. Their automated system triggered a full cancellation of my subscription, erasing not only the promotional plan but also the active month I had already paid for.

Support Response and Policy Limitations

When I reached out to support, they acknowledged that the cancellation was caused by their automated system’s actions. Unfortunately, they stated that they couldn’t restore my access—even for the period I had already paid—due to their policy restrictions. The only solution offered was for me to resubscribe at the full rate, which felt dismissive after years of loyalty.

This experience was particularly disheartening, as it was my first interaction with their support team. It underscored a frustrating disconnect: it wasn’t just about the money but about feeling valued as a long-term customer. The rigidity of their policies made me feel like a transaction rather than a valued user.
