During a recent four-day Easter weekend, I had the pleasure of exploring some of the northern and eastern regions of Flanders, discovering both well-known sites and lesser-known treasures. Leuven: A Student-Centric Haven of Greenery and History

My adventure began in the vibrant city of Leuven, renowned for its prestigious university and lively atmosphere. The first few images showcased the Botanical Garden—a true hidden gem not listed in common travel guides. This tranquil oasis is perfect for nature lovers seeking a peaceful escape amidst flora and fauna. Also featured is the Groot Begijnhof, a historic beguinage that intriguing as student housing! Antwerp: A Bustling Urban Center

Next, I visited Antwerp and its iconic Cathedral. While the city itself didn’t quite resonate with me as deeply—feeling somewhat similar to my hometown—it offers plenty to see and do. I made sure to explore the Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen (KMSKA), which houses an impressive collection of works by Peter Paul Rubens. Despite some initial reservations, Antwerp’s energetic nightlife and diverse culinary scene make it a worthwhile destination, especially for those seeking a lively city experience.

Lier: Belgium’s Miniature Bruges

On my return trip from Leuven, I stopped in Lier—sometimes affectionately called Belgium’s “mini-Bruges.” The city’s charming streets and quaint setup make it an ideal spot for a quick visit, only a couple of hours, to soak in its historic ambiance. Its resemblance to Bruges, but on a more relaxed scale, makes it a perfect day-trip destination for travelers wanting an authentic Belgian experience without the crowds.

Ghent: A Balance of Culture and Relaxation

Revisiting Ghent on Easter Sunday proved to be an excellent choice. The city blends medieval charm with modern vibrancy.
